The company traces its origins to 1909, when the Sumitomo Group made an investment in Dunlop Japan, the newly formed Japanese subsidiary of the British company Dunlop Rubber. Over the years Sumitomo and Dunlop developed a close business relationship and in 1963 the Sumitomo Group acquired control of Dunlop Japan and renamed it Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. Sumitomo tire manufacturer is currently owned by Sumitomo Rubber Industry.
Sumitomo provides a wide range of quality tires for performance vehicles along with light and medium trucks. For performance vehicles, Sumitomo has just introduced a new tire called the HTR Z III. The HTR Z III is proof of Sumitomo’s well-earned reputation for superior engineering and vanguard technology. Designed for today’s most popular performance vehicles, the Z III combines euro performance with street tuner appeal. The result is an enhanced traction, exceptional handling and new level ultimate performance tire. The key attributes of this tire include four straight, wide grooves that further heighten drainage for improved wet performance along with siped tie-bars, which reinforce block rigidity for control and enhance wet traction. This tire also has what it takes to be tough with a reinforced construction for real world durability and a Y-speed rating for true high-performance vehicles.
The HTR Z II is another Sumitomo performance series tire. In addition to the rest of the HTR series, this tire has a lot to offer such as ultimate grip and handling in wet or dry conditions along with compounds composed of ultra micro carbon technology and silica based rubber engineering which improves wet and dry traction. This tire has a revolutionary, advanced, aggressive directional tread pattern and a bold, wide tread- aggressive appearance with an unyielding grip. One of the key attributes of this tire includes deep circumferential center rain grooves, which provides phenomenal hydroplaning resistance. The tire also offers multi-direction water channels, which improve wet traction and increase handling grip, handling performance, and steering response in wet conditions. This long lasting tire has PSP technology, which optimizes overall casing durability throughout the life of the tire and a wheel flange guard, which protects the wheel rim from curb damage.
Finally, Sumitomo’s most popular light truck vehicle tire is the HTR Sport H/P. This tire has a non-directional all season tread pattern and a center rib for greater straight line stability along with a shoulder block design for maximum grip and a longer life span. This tire was built with four wide deep circumferential grooves for excellent anti-hydroplaning and segmental molds for top quality uniformity for a smooth surface.
